Tech school or no Tech school?

Well it has come to my attention that what I am doing in my tech school will have no bearing on my credits for college, which was the only reason why I enrolled in this tech school. So should I stay here and maybe actually apply myself some or drop out and go take some blow off courses at my homeschool?

Senior year btw.

Interesting question. I think the answer really depends on where you see yourself working in the future. If you want to become an elite web-design guru and you can do that with your own study and the tech school, I would say stay in the tech school. If you see yourself doing mostly freelance work or work for a smaller creative company I say stay with the tech school. If it is possible that in the future you won't be doing work in the focus of your tech program than you should give more consideration to getting a more traditional degree.

It's a school that teaches technology (business or other type), trades, and sometimes entry engineering. You usually earn an Associates degree or some sort of graduation certificate. (though some, such as ITT Tech, offer Bachelors) The curriculum is pretty stream line and focused, so it doesn't have a bunch of core courses that you must take like you must in a traditional undergraduate school. Good schools if you want to take up more of a trade or specialization. Though it is a good idea to make sure they are acredited institutions in case you want to go further with your education.

I was listening to a highly respected entrepreneur not long ago and he was telling the show host that his advice to high school students these days is to get into a GOOD tech school and keep up with the technology after they graduate...(most companies pay their tech people to do this anyway).

I'm not saying he is totally right or wrong. But having gone through a traditional university education in the US, too many of my former classmates have been bounced on their butts out of companies that are dounsizing/outsourcing.

Technology is still one area where the US still kicks ass.

Interesting points, Rickbass. And I would have to say I agree with him on the issue. I really don't know if companies value a 4 year degree anymore over a 2 year degree. You'll probaly get a more rounded education with the 4 year degree, but many companies are looking for "specialist" when it comes to tech. I also think they are more concerned with your experience, and how familiar you are with the technology. I know many guys who work in the IT field with nothing more than certifications. The education is great, but with tech, you are not done learning after school. If you quit, you will be passed by, much like the alumni you mentioned.
