Tempted to do something ass-backward

I've got a Tubeworks RT-3100 combo for home practice.

I've been toying with building a 1x10 extension cabinet with the same exact dimensions as the combo, minus the amp section. Kind of like "as-if" Tubeworks had built it. Hell, I'll even cook up a badge!

The combo driver is 8 ohms and the amp is good for another 8 ohm cabinet. If you look in the bottom right corner you'll see a port, just a hole in the baffle, really. Not sure where to get the grill material from.

The driver looks much like an Eminence BP102, but that's just a guess. Anyone know anything about the specs on the Tubeworks driver so I can at least find one in the ballpark?

The ass-backward part would be to simply build the box and just slap a driver in, regardless.

Love my RT-3100 :) . The driver was rubbing when I got it so I slapped in a random 16 ohm I had. I wanted something low volume for rehearsal with eDrums and it overdrives nicely now with all the knobs on "11". I actually don't remember it having an external speaker jack? Plus I thought the stock driver was 4 ohms? But it's been a while, I'll check it next time I'm where it's at...

An interesting idea, but you have not stated why you want to do this. Is the goal to increase the maximum volume, prevent fart-out, add bass depth, or ? Are you sure that the amp has an external speaker jack? The fact that a solid state amp is hooked up to an 8 ohm driver does not assure that it has adequate heat management for 4 ohm operation.

Well, the amp is certainly 4 ohm capable, and I've actually added an Ampeg 410 to this for kicks, so no foul there.
Other than the "that would look cool" factor, I probably don't need the extra cab.

PS How many practice combos have you seen with an effects loop and quality DI?

Good ideas both, assuming the amp will handle the load, which it seems it will -- at least your 410 experience would seem to indicate so. If you do stick another driver in there, you'll want to check that it works well with the box size and tuning.

GK
With a 10" driver in a tiny box with a small amp, I would think the exact tuning details will yield minimum gains assuming you are using a decent speaker.
