Terror bass?

I own both a Terror Bass 500 and a Terror Bass 1000, and I love them both (though I should probably sell one of them, since the 500 is hella loud!). I really dig them, but then again, I really like the Orange AD200B, and they share the same preamp. Their output sections are very robust, and the 4/8 ohm switch actually works! Burst power is amazing out of these guys. You can check out the Link Removed.

Do you feel like the 500 is loud enough to play in bars where I will be using 1 or 2 cabs plus PA support? This is a 3 piece, classic rock, modern country, lead guitar plus vocals, drummer, and me on bass. I like all the clips I have heard of this head, from fairly clean to some nice grindy over drive. I can play both in person, but wonder how it will translate in a live setting. I have enough $ for the 500, but it might be a bit before I can swing the 1000 if I go that route. I have a Hartke LH500 which I am probably keeping either way.

Also, do you think the guys that say the 500 won't play loud and clean have too much gain dialed in? I will mostly be playing a Fender Precision, but might play a Jazz bass a little.

^^^^This would be my worry about getting one. I just haven't found an amp with the Fender tone stack that I've ever been happy with. Everything else sounds like it's right up my alley....

My LH500 has the Fender tone stack and I like the sound. It just isn't very flexible in my opinion, but I like what it does. If you want to vary your tone quite a bit it isn't going to happen...

Hard choice that 500 or 1000,I,ve got the 500 and the SP212 cab.
Happy as,never any issues about volume-plenty and more,tone love it.
New ones are all fixed,the only improvements would be another SP 212 cab and maybe try other tubes,apart from that over the moon

The TB500 will be plenty loud for what you described. It won't give you that modern super clean tone though. Set gain to 9:00ish and dial in the volume as needed but it will still have that touch of dirt on it. I've found it just blends really well with any decent guitar tone. Trying one out is the best thing for you to do. I'll never part with mine.

Set gain to 9:00ish and dial in the volume as needed but it will still have that touch of dirt on it. I've found it just blends really well with any decent guitar tone. Trying one out is the best thing for you to do. I'll never part with mine.
