I am new here and after a number of years I decided to get me a economic Bass Guitar. and as a Luthier and Tech on all Stringed Instruments. So I went for the Squier Vibe 50's Precision Bass (Blond White) for sure. I got some parts for this Little Girl Putting my Stank on it ! I have been Luthiering for a number of years and, have played Bass on a couple of gigs. What I am asking is the Difference between Flat and Round Wound Strings ??? Yes I have heard the arguments of Fret ware and all and I hear that Flat Wounds are a bit easy on your Finger Tips. I got a pair of Flats coming to house soon. i sure would like to hear some input on this subject. Thank You

Flats are indeed easier on the fingers than rounds, they have less highs and sound thumpier or more muted. If you like that sound, great, but if you prefer a "zingier" sound, you'll want rounds. Try both and see which you prefer!

Rounds vs. Flats... I spent my first few bass-playing years going back and forth between flats and rounds, not being able to decide which served me better.

I loved the smooth feel of flats with no finger noise when I was sliding from one note to the next, but I actually preferred the sound I got out of my bass with rounds on it while hating the rough texture and screechy noise they made. Back and forth, back and forth... Then came the GHS Pressurewounds and the rest is history, as they say...

The Pressurewounds are what they call "rollerwound", where the round cover wire is run through a precision roller during the winding process to be flattened into an oval shape, resulting in a much smoother surface texture than typical rounds (something I want), while retaining most of the roundwound tone (something I need).

Now all three of my basses wear the GHS Pressurewound, so I can have both what I want in feel and what I need in tone in the same string. No more going back and forth between flats and rounds.

Moral of the story: Only you can decide for yourself what kind of tone you want and how you want the strings to feel under your fingers. Go ahead and do what I did - try a few different types of strings and see which ones might tickle your fancy.

Thank you my Brother ! I never knew about the GHS Pressurewounds. I am sure that my P Bass will come with round wounds and I have purchased some Rotosound 77 flats. As I said I have some mods to do on her such as a new Hipshot Kick Ass Bridge and Custom Pickguard. Before I do that, I will be playing her stock for a while. Once again Thank you for the Info !
