Double Bass That VooDoo that You Did??

Yes this is very much a thing, but I've never heard the Kolstein story.

Here's an excellent documentary imo and highly recommend the watch.


Entire thing is worth the watch but around 30 min is where the luthier gets into some of the finer details of making a concert level instrument. In the end, they kind of come to this conclusion that if properly done you can essentially make a new instrument behave as if it were already seasoned with years of playing.
 
In my early days in New York I met guys who would take their basses to Kolstein once a year where they would be dissembled so the wood could "rest" and then put back together with wonderful results. Oy. Small con jobs were going on in that shop long before the major crimes committed recently by the new guy.
