I've been looking to play one of the new American Deluxe Precisions with the added Humbucker. I've been looking to play one however, living in a small town with music stores that provide limited stock has been frustrating.Does anyone out there own one/played one. I'm looking for additional reviews other than those posted on Musician's Friend. It looks nice i.e.Amber with rosewood fretboard. I have an old P-Bass 1971 which I love but like most of the TB'ers am looking for additional/different sound. Would appreciate any input.
I have two, a 4 and 5er. Both are excellent instruments. I will tell you that they are a different sound than a passive P Bass, more punch and clarity but not as much of the classic P warmth as you might expect. I am not a fan of "modern" sounding basses, probably because I was raised on that old school bass tone. I finally settled on Chromes for the 5er because rounds were just too twangy sounding with the active electronics. My 4 has been modded with Bart P/Us and pre. This setup has a much more vintage sound than the stock arrangement and it allows me to switch to a passive mode with a pull switch, very close to vintage P. Rounds work with this setup and the tonal variations are much more musical, IMHO. I have played quite afew ADP4s in stores and all of them have been very nice with excellent build quality and feel. Hope that helps a bit. Here is a pic of the Bros.
