I thought this might interest some of you guys ....

Awhile back I used to post a bit over on the Alembic Forum (great place!) anyway from time to time Mica would put up for sale these beautiful boxes made at the Alembic Factory, they came in all types of exotic woods some even had inlays! anyway I managed to snag this one before they were sold out. Im not sure if they sell these anymore I know they were sold pretty much to forum members only.

This one has a Mahogany base with a Burl walnut top maple stripe and Mahogany outside.

Ive had it for quite awhile now.

is it true that alembic tries to isolate the tone of the instruments away from the wood, so that the multi-laminates and looks don't do anything to alter the sound. i read in a few places that this is how they can achieve high sonic performance with exquisite aesthetics.

I'd love to know that it took 12 months to get around to starting on my bass because they were busy making cutting boards and ornamental boxes....

j/k, I'm sure they do them to pass time while waiting for the basses to be ready for the next stage and all.

Alot of the tone comes from there own custom electronics no doubt but I think they put as much emphasis into the tone of the wood as well, they definitely know what woods works well to get you closer to the tone you want. As for the looks... I think that comes from experience from building as long as they have been. There is also a big difference between there "Set neck" and "neck through" basses.

heres some thing Mica once said:
"Neck through Alembics give a kind of automatic EQ "smile" with less mids, and the set neck ones have a good amount of midgrange and a "punchier" sound."
