Thomann in catalogue has only a Stealth Black 4, a Stealth Black 5, a Mantis Green 6, and a Titan Grey 4, all HH (and in any case, they have more bongos in catalogue than other European retailers that seem to have little to no one and at unreasonable prices, imagine that). Luckily, the Stealth Black 5 was the one I was seeking for!

Thought I would see if I could join the club. I picked up this 2014 PDN from a fellow TBer about a month ago.
The Neptune blue is a lot better looking in person than in my dull pictures. This has the H/S configuration with a Piezo. Anyone else have experience with the Piezo pickup? I can get some pretty great tones out of blending the magnetic, Piezo, and the frequency knobs. That being said I wonder if anyone knows some magic sauce with this configuration that I haven't discovered yet.

My first Bongo had the piezo and I personally didn't find it useful. Some people love it though

Hi guys, just received my Bongo today. I had immediately a great feeling with it and I believe this thing is crazy

Just for those who purchased it new, did you find imperfections when it came? I showed mine to my wife and she said I am crazy. Yes I am a perfectionist but you know, it’s a ton of money and perfection is expected (or maybe no?).
I found:
1) a small dent on a pot;
2) a very small white point on the neck (really microscopic);
3) a slight paint imperfection on the neck too, like rest of paint (microscopic);
4) the pickguard side seems scratched;
But what is bothering me the most, are these that seem more than imperfections of the wood or the paint which are pretty visible:
As I never had the fortune to buy a new premium instrument before, do you think guys these are normal human being things even on premium instruments, or mine got some less attention here and there?
Just to clarify, weight, ergonomics, sound, and no slipping G makes of this unit a keeper already. Just curious to know your experience on this. The very bad thing overall is just those things on the body. They were visible even on the pictures Thomann sent me before to ship it. But I thought being an opaque finished, that it needed just cleaning. It’s not the case, they stayed there. Everything else is, I admit, probably things for obsessed people like I am. But on the body, I am not sure at all.

I payed 3.222 euros for a new unit. Yes, from Thomann (Germany).
If you love everything else, I'm ask them for a partial refund like 10%.
Or just ask for a replacement
Been using Sadowsky Blue Label Stainless on my Bongo for awhile but decided I wanted to change it up. The Sadowsky sound excellent but the tension was always slightly higher than I like. Especially when playing high on the neck I felt like the strings didn't speak quite as well due to the tension.
Was curious about the newish Hybrid strings from Dunlop. I love Superbrights, and had them on the Bongo for awhile. But on the Bongo the steel were a bit too bright and the nickel too dull for me. These hybrids are right in the middle and sound amazing on the Bongo. Plus the tension is perfect, feels slightly higher than regular superbrights. B string is excellent as well.
Curious about how long they will last. The Sadowsky lasted me anywhere from 6-10 weeks, which is really long for me. Superbrights only last me 3-4 weeks. Hoping these hybrid ones last a bit longer

Yea it looks like some stuff didn't get sanded down well enough. You're well justified in expecting perfection. EBMM themselves can and do achieve perfection regularly I would say. It'll be one of those unfortunate judgement calls where you have to weigh how much it'll bother you against how much you like that particular unit. It's true that a replacement could have other issues, the slipping off G string for instance. I don't know how good Thomann is about things like this but maybe you could request some hi resolution photos of a replacement bass and try to see how close the G string is to the edge. You can kinda tell if it's going to be one of the bigger offenders.
Yeah like folks have said. if it’s brand new and full price the scratches on the neck and finish issues are definitely worth complaining about. That’s enough to make it “b stock” I would hope. I’m glad you are enjoying the sound in the meantime while they resolve your issue !
Not playing the Bongo, shipped back already waiting for a good one in return. In the meanwhile I’ll play this HB PJ 5 arrived today. 149,00 euros shipped, with a jack, D’Addario strings, and perfect paint…embarassing what I saw in just 24 hours.
