The CORT Club (Part 2)

Picking up where I left off, the preamps are pretty stout on the A-series. You either like them or you do not.

This A4 is 13 years old, bought brand new in 2000, has been on dozens and dozens of recordings, countless live gigs. These pictures are 13 years old, this bass looks exactly the same today. The finish is stone-solid and has held up perfectly, there isn't a mark on it. Stock licensed Bartolini single coil pickups (the neck pickup does a GREAT P-Bass sound). Stays tuned, no neck issues, it's easily the best $600 bass I have ever owned (I've owned 27 basses so far .. no wait ... make that 28).

:)

Thanks for the info guys!

So I've had this bass (A6) for 3 days now and so far I'm very happy. I'm getting used to the extra top string slowly. The issue I'm having is when going for a note on the D string I naturally go now for the G string, but I'm starting to get over that now. The neck is super fast and the instrument plays exceptionally well after I tweaked the string heights and intonation a little.

I tried it amplified (at home so low volume) yesterday for the first time and I found the pre quite usable when used in moderation. The treble can be a little harsh especially (as BassmanM said) with the EQ off. EQ on and treble rolled off a fraction seems to be OK.

My next gig is 26th so I'll report back then along with pics so I can get a number ;-)

Has anyone put the Bartolini 5.4AP in one of these?
Something is telling me it would be a worthwhile 'upgrade', but spending $160 on a pre when this one is OK is a lot when it's just a hunch...

Finished my preamp mod on my Cort GB75 with a 3 band Glockenklang. This thing will cut through any mix. The slap tone is very similar to my old Sadowsky w/ single coil pups. I'm in less $400 all used and this bass is a dream. B string is tight as a drum.

New to the club I picked this baby up a few weeks ago on the road. Only paid $240 for it with a hard case. Was looking for a light weight 5 and it fits the bill! Had to do a little surgery on the strap buttons they were stripped and had the wrong screws. Other than that just put on some new strings and a setup and she's my main bass now!

Any chance of a number?

Those Curbows are just sick! Maybe someday if the stars are all properly aligned, I'll get my own.

Here she is. She really does play beautifully and getting used to a 6 hasn't taken too much work - no screw ups!

Do I get a number?

That is one sick fekking bass! Welcome to the Cult of Cortage!

Thanks Dude! Once I got over the "stigma" and did my research, it was easy to pull the trigger. I think any one who actually got their hands on one would get over the Cort name too.

At band practice yesterday, I told the guitar player I got a new bass, and he asked me what kind. I said Cort, and he said, "Who?" LOL :D

Hey all, I've got a C4Z which I love but I'm wondering if anyone knows or has done a replacement on the pickups and/or preamp. I'm pretty good with electronics but I'd like to know if there's a straight drop-in replacement for the Mighty Mite system that's in it. I'd like to avoid having to router/drill anything.
Thanks.

after playing in a band for some time, circumstances sent each one in different directions, the band ended & later, tired of playing bass alone w/ my TR 505, i sold my 1978 Fender Precision to a friend along w/ my rig but kept my Peavey Combo300..

some 20 years later i got the bug again, bought a Cort Action4A to have a go at it without committing too much money & i couldn't be happier : it's a very simple yet VERY well made bass & sounds absolutely great - WAY BETTER than it's price suggests

that was 6 months ago, then i got the bug to have a go at a 5er &...you guessed it : got myself a REALLY NICE Cort GB35 for 260€, shipping from Germany to Portugal included - can you friggin' believe it ?

thank goodness many people must have a ''Famous Brand Name'' on the headstock, this way we can go on buying really nice basses for peanuts !!

i changed it's strings for Ken Smith Burners, set it up properly myself & although it sounds quite nice as it is, i'm waiting for a Delano MC5FE/J for the bridge + a Delano JMVC5FE for the neck & a Delano Sonar 2 preamp : after that , it should sound absolutely fantastic, a poor man's Sandberg if you will....for some 550€

my GB35 : Nice wide & comfortable neck, ''rings'' beautifully unplugged, no neck dive - LOVE IT !!

I'm with you man! My GB 94 (gb4) custom is a VERY nice bass and I couldn't ask for more. Cort is ok as the factory behind the scenes for the people buying a Lakland Skyline for $1200, but not when its Cort on the headstock. Fine with me, keeps the price down. Mine has a smooth as a baby's bottom jazz neck and a spalt top - they are not out there to try but I would bet that 1 out of 2 would pick it at the same price over a Fender Jazz, 3 of 4 at half the price, if they could try it.
