The Day The Earth Stood Still (Remake)

I almost had this one in my Netflix queue. Good thing I read the user reviews first. Not too many good things were said about it. Other than "get the original" as a suggestion. Apperiantly this movie was remade a few times and the original still hasn't been beat. According to Netflix, that is.

I am a huge fan of the original. Now that I've heard the remake is nothing more than a special effects driven bit of smug propaganda for preaching the far, far, left fringe message of enviornmentalism, where all humans completely suck and we all should die......well I don't think I'm gonna' catch it anytime soon.

Going to watch the original this week. AMC was kind enough to run it on 12/23 and I was lucky enough to notice and record it.

Just to give you an idea of the difference between the original and the remake, the original scores a 93 at Rotten Tomatoes. The remake is now scoring a 20 (it was scoring a 25 in its release week).

Although Hollywood has been re-making films forever, it seems that in the last 5-10 years there has been an increase in them. I have yet to see one that is equal to or better than the original (have to go all the way back to John Carpenter's "The Thing").

My singer and guitarist really wanted to see this and I refused to go. The best they could offer for a review was "so-so" and "wasn't awful". Sorry, I like my movies to be a little better than that.

Horrible movie.

It screamed: We really should save the world or else... Everything's going to die.

Boring to the core, predictable, too few explosions. Wasted my money.

They could have gotten a hippy environmentalist to make this movie and it would have been a lot more pleasing to watch.

It didn't end, it just kinda stopped.

The female lead, whatever her name was (I guess Jennifer Conelly, by reading this thread) was even more wooden than Keanu Reeves.

Lots of good product placement though. I always look for commercial promotions in my overblown cheesefest flicks, and this one didn't disappoint!
