Recently, one of our members (@Tom Lane) has offered several items to us for free. It reminded me of a thread on an audio gear forum that I read, where members offer up items for free, and can set fun or interesting conditions to win the items. On small items, shipping is often covered by the originator. On larger items, the winner may pay shipping. Originator gets to decide the conditions of the transaction. Here’s a link to the Karma Circle that I mentioned to provide examples of how they do it: The Karma Circle This could stay here in Miscellaneous, or perhaps the Mods could move it to the Classifieds forums.
I’ll start: “How to Play Jazz and Improvise” by Jamie Abersold. 104 pages, plus CD. First person to guess my middle name wins. (It’s a simple and common 1-syllable name). Shipping included. Winner must then offer an item of theirs for giveaway.
This is a great idea. I don't need a game to go with it, but we are doing some Swedish Death Cleaning (SDC©) soon and I will be able to contribute. There will be a number of things that some folks might find useful, and I'd rather not go through the trouble to sell them. The biggest of these is a Soundwear bass case that is in good shape but needs a zipper repair. Subscribed!
Doesn’t have to be a game, but it can be more interesting than “1st person to respond wins”. Gives more people a chance at something if they don’t see it the first day it’s posted.
In the interest of reviving this thread, I’ll eliminate the game aspect and simply offer my book to anyone who’s interested. I’ll cover postage in the U.S. “How to Play Jazz and Improvise” by Jamie Abersold. 104 pages, plus CD. https://www.talkbass.com/attachments/49982363-6a35-492c-aff0-b273d165a09e-jpeg.3850057/
First off, what a wonderful idea, thanks for making this thread! It's warming to see how many kind and selfless individuals inhabit this site. If nobody has claimed the Aebersold book yet I'd love to have it. In fairness, I'll take a shot at the original challenge... I'm gonna guess your middle name is Lee.
Not Lee, but you can have the book anyway. Or, I can hold it until you guess right. (Just kidding) send me a PM with your address.
@Quinn Roberts We’ll play tag, and you’re it. Hopefully you can find something to pass along to someone else.
I'll do an inventory check, I'm in need of some "Swedish Death Cleaning" myself (hopefully that doesn't infringe on any copyright ). I don't have much literature around, but certainly some bass related gear.
Thanks again Jim! I did some digging around and found a couple how to play bass books; at face they're more oriented towards electric, but the concepts discussed are all-inclusive. Chad Johnson - All About Bass (With CD) Phil Mulford - Absolute Beginners Bass Guitar (With CD) P.M. me if interested
