Unless I glanced over his name, I don't believe I saw Mr. Tony Levin on the list, ehem! Lots of other greats were mentioned however. What about Jimmy Johnson (James Taylor among MANY others), the guy is as smooth as silk! Listen to Walter Becker tackle the bass on on some of Steely Dan's latest studio work, and of course, Tom Barney on the live gigs. How about Bob Birch who tours with Elton John. There are so many powerhouse players out there, so I'll just leave it alone now, before I get carried away. Wait, before I go... a name that rarely surfaces in discussions of bass greatness, but a deserving one nonetheless... one of the best rock bassists of our time, Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith; really, listen to his work on Toys in the Attic, Permanent Vacation and Pump. His playing is no-nonsense, rock solid and funky as anything out there. He just plays the right notes. Period.
