Usually it stays in the bag until the 2 ends are all that's left, then I eat it.

In the UK we call 'em crusts...I quite like the fresh crust off a new loaf, but the old one usually gets put in the oven on low until it goes completely hard, is crumbed, and goes on top of a mac 'n cheese.

I toast the crusts first, my favourite bit, usually with Bovril or Lime Marmalade, it's the biz.

I never could understand the distaste for loaf ends. They're perfect for half-sammiches....toast them, spread on the PB or whatev, and chow. Delish. I mean wtq? it's bread. You ate the other 24 slices....

I've always heard them referred to as *heels*
I try to save them for a big batch of French toast, but I'll eat them in any kind of sandwich in a pinch. Strangely, my picky kids don't mind them.
I've also always called all the outside dges of bread the *crust*- wacko limeys...

It gets eaten only if the rest of the loaf is gone. It is like a thin hamburger bun, so I don't understand my (and others) distaste for it.

I always eat the end pieces last, but I always eat the end pieces with Nutella. There's something better about an end piece and Nutella, as opposed to a middle piece and nutella.

Also, if we're talking a baguette or french bread, heel is the best part. But if it's a loaf of bread, well my Nutella thing still stands.
