I finish sanded the body and neck to 180 and shot it with amber shellac today. It'll get a few days to cure nice before I get back to the shop. I've got it on the run now.

I got the neck bolted on and the pickups mounted last night. Another day in the shop and it should be ready to play. Old man for scale.
Sir, I believe space aliens may be about to probe your bass. Best see to the situation.
All done! It plays and sounds killer. It'll be a bit before I settle into what I Ike beat for tonal choices between single coil and humbucker. As of now my usual 7/10 split either way is a sweet spot for sure. The intonation is just a touch flat but I'll fix that up before I change strings in a couple months.
I've had a couple hours of practice with it now. It's a bit heavier than my other long scale five but not enough that I won't get used to it. I'm settling into a neck profile that I really dig, which is basically flat with radiused corners. You can miss me with those dainty jazz necks.
Everything sounds a little bigger and more nuanced than with my other one, especially running the neck pickup as a single coil. The bridge doesn't seem as effected by splitting. Soloing the neck pickup as a humbucker sounds so damn mean through me distortion though.
I set my bridge a little long so I'd have wiggle room to play with intonation. I fixed that up last night. It had drifted even flatter once the neck relaxed and I needed to give the truss rod some love. My one complaint with this headless hardware is setting intonation but I don't know of a better way to do it. Oh well, it's all done now.
I don't see another bass build on the horizon for a while. This thing is scratching all my itches in the best ways.
