If anyone hasn't checked out the new daft punk album, it's awesome! Tons of real instruments all over it.
Agreed. I think it's Nathan East on "The Game of Love" as well as on "Get Lucky." Great grooves on this album.
Haha, funny, I was just listening to this album and felt the need to do a forum search for any discussion on this album, the bass grooves on this new daft punk album are awesome to say the least. Game of love sounds like a fretless.
Just looked it up... Looks like it was Nathan East and James Genus that combined for the bass tracks... Game of Love almost sounds more like James Genus to me... but I'll believe you if you're certain it's Nathan East.
I wish I could figure out what bass/eq/etc he's using for that tone. it's soooooo good.

I agree with that, but I don't think that the treble is rolled off a ton, a bit but not over the top.
That tone sounds like hat a good VTC should do with Humbuckers.
My dad is the lead trumpet player with Chic so he was giving me the low down on the cd since he's good friends with Nile Rodgers. This record exceeded my already high expectations.
I'm digging the new album too! My favorite is " lose yourself to dance" seriously funky stuff!!!

This, in spades. It's great when the electronics are so subtle that you have to listen closely to detect their presence.
They said it cost over a million dollars, but they wanted to use as few computers as possible. They used a drum machine, synth, and vintage vocoders and that's it. Rest (including some drums by Okar Hakim!) are all live instruments. These guys are awesome!
