Looks about right to me. The only thing that might look a little off to me is the finish on the back of the neck looks very good compaired with the rest of the bass, and the fret wire looks a little big for that era. Other than that, at least from the pictures, it looks right to me. Once again, there's no way I'd buy something like this without independent authentication from a reputable source. If this is a legit auction, the seller should agree to that before payment.

The true horror of this auction is the HORRENDOUS layout of his BOGUS advertising and layouts of his photos.

If I gotta scroll sideways just to read your stupid propagandic auction, you are NOT a professional, you are NOT trustworthy, you are a pathetic N00B and I hold you as lowly on the social totem pole as the ******** high school girlies posting twenty-five Youtube links to Justin Timberlake videos and tragically bringing my computer to a gridlocked lagged screeching halt.

I despise morons like this who can't lay out a web page logically and aesthetically pleasing. It's like downing a bottle of Jagermeister and then watching American Idol with 3D glasses on. BRAIN DAMAGINGLY PAINFUL.

nope...i don't get the original '67 L88 vette either...

to me..it's about the music, not the gear.

I can appreciate good gear...but would rather own a dozen USA Laklands over one $45K Fender...

that's me...others may differ.

Listen, I could give a crap what people have to say about the price but you people need to respect that bass. That is a true rarity, a custom limited-run Fender back when there was no Custom Shop, and you're not very likely to see another one going on sale any time in the next few years.

Plus Gary Glitter may have been a one-hit wonder in America and a filthy sex pervert now, but in England and Europe he was about as big as it gets at one time. Do I think the bass player for Gary Glitter will get $45,000 for it? Probably not. It's not a star guitar, like if Entwistle owned it. But it is a part of European rock history and has been used on many hits, and I wouldn't be surprised if the guy sold it for $25,000.

$45k for a Fender P-bass? Because it's old or somebody famous touched it? It reminds me of the American author who wrote, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people".

I can go to bed every night knowing that I have never put a dime in the pockets of people who charge such exorbitant prices for vintage instruments, whether they be eBayers or instrument dealers. If you're one of those who pays inflated prices for vintage instruments and contributes to this foolishness...read my first paragraph. :( :scowl: :rollno:

$45K for (hopefully) a genuine rarity which will probably appreciate in value. And the same week Britney's hair is on the bay! I think $45K for that bass is a much better deal than $100 for pop-tart hair.

I used to drink in the same pub as the Glitter Band - damn.
The amount of money celebs have these days I'm sure there'll be an 'off-air' deal made at some stage - dependant upon a balance of greed-want-bass v greed-want-money.

Collector items are fine - it's what museums are all about and thank goodness someone preserves the stuff (or all basses would end up like the other two oldies in TB - wrecks).
Ever seen what Sotheby's turn out?

I agree that 25,000 would be more reasonable. The real problems is that this isn't just another bass. All those who are playing the 'geeze, that much for some wood and wire' don't understand that it's not about the wood and wire. It's about the fact that fender only produced 20 of these, only for a very small export market...from an era that's become highly sought after for collectors...and more than a few classic recordings by highly revered musicians have been done with more than a few of the 20. If you add to this the fact that many pros speak so highly about the sound of these few slabs, it sounds like a good deal.

Steven Segal will probably end up with this one. Or maybe someone in Japan.

I couldnt agree more, hence my 1st post about HTML in Ebay. All he had to do was sling a few <P> .. </P> or <B> ... </B> at the end of each pic, and it would have looked so much better and people wouldnt have to keep scrolling 200 yards to the right, and then back again, and then right again ...blah blah

That's wonderful, but do you understand why someone else might want to own something rare and highly desirable, like an L88 Vette or this Precision?

Not everyone is willing or able (I'm neither) to pay that kind of money for something, but I am old and wise enough to understand why someone who can afford it would be.
