EmptyTheEarth, that's a good backstory. Sometimes, it does seem like guitar players are a dime a dozen. Bass is one that you'll never be the star, but you won't "go hungry" so to speak. I give you #27.

I played guitar for a solid 8 years before switching to bass. I actually found some of the things i did on guitar was much more appropriate for bass, like doing little single note runs, which turned out to make great bass fills.

Started playing guitar about 1997/98. Mainly because I had an older friend who offered to teach me.

A few years after that (2002?), I began playing piano, but I had difficulty with the left hand and bass clef, so I thought taking up bass may help with it.

I finally added bass in 2007.

I still play guitar, and piano, and have even written the guitar parts to a couple of our band's songs.

When I was around 14/15 I wanted to know something other than piano, but thought bass would be so much cooler and different (?)
than guitar. My mom said I can't just play bass alone though so I got an acoustic for Christmas that year. I sort of got off to a good start with some basic chords but eventually got frustrated at how limiting my tiny hands were.

A few years later, after my uncle let me tinker around on his new 5-string (he's mostly a guitar person himself) I decided to take the plunge and buy a bass...I caught on so much more quickly and it overall just seemed more natural to me. I have sort of dipped my toe in guitar again but more along the lines of experimenting with effects/weird tunings/etc

I started back in the late 90's on guitar and about a few years later picked up bass. I still play my guitar from time to time, but it is more as a downtime hobby. I am a bassist through and through.

Started playing guitar in the late 90's, took private lessons and all. But it just didn't stick and I stopped playing after a couple of years. When I picked up the Bass it was instant love. Can't put it down and hate that I waited so long to give it a try.

I started on guitar. I was a headbanger and it was all guitar this and guitar that. Never paid attention to the bass....until I heard Iron Maiden.

I've played guitar and bass since the 70s but only played out on bass. I was noodling around on guitar between rehearsal and the service Sunday morning and was asked to switch to guitar. I don't really want to leave the bottom end out of the music.

About 10 years ago I had a girlfriend who was an ex wedding singer and self taught classical guitar player. As part of her physical rehab she was taking up guitar again and I started playing around with guitar and later bass to do it with her. Jump forward a few years my goal became to play for the church. The brother on guitar was the only constant band member and our bassist had left home for school so eventually I stepped forward to fill the bass chair.
