Lo, many thanks for that article, I love reading stuff like that and hunting for the tracks.

Interesting that Jackson says he remembers JJ plucking with 2 fingers when he tried out AJ's bass, for 2 reasons: I didn't know they ever met each other, and because all the footage and discussion of Jamerson says he only used 1 finger. I still think he only used 1 finger, it's clear from the close up footage of his plucking hand (what little there is of it), plus I think it contributed a lot to his sound.

Thanks for the input on my comments, and hope nothing I said was taken as a pro-CK stance. My opinion is quite the opposite.

I couldn't agree more.:p And, it was never my intention to "stir the pot".

A better idea would be to go and watch what the people at Motown had to say regarding their glory years in Detroit.

I watched the videos and found I'd watched them last year, in fact I think I found the links on your site Bob. Thanks to you again! Man, I would love to spend a month or so in that vault listening to those reels.:D

This is the part that floors me sometimes. There is the notion that I hate Carol/women in general/female bassists in particular (etc) and nothing could be further from the truth.

While I was addressing your post and thoughts it was not my intent to imply to you directly with my comments. They are the result of the years of dealing with this subject and a desire to have those who made the music in these instances get their just due and credit for enriching all of our lives.

Also there is a real desire not to have Carol Kayes' name come up every time anyone salutes Jamerson, the Funk Brothers or Motown...

I am especially floored by his groove in between time signatures 02:20 - 02:50 which starts when Marvin hits that amazing high.

Jamerson had to scalp a ticket to get into this show and watch his bass lines played by another (able) bassist,.. I'm sure if that bassist knew Jamerson was in the audience as an uninvited attendee he wouldn't have been too happy.

I've seen that vid at least a dozen times and I can't get enough. Every time I watch it, I have to watch from beginning to end. Today's music seems so cold and heartless in comparison.

Nice JJ style for sure but seems that little bit too predictable and doesn't sit as nicely as JJ typically does. Certainly uses flats though!

You're right, difficult to say one way or another, I'd tend towards 'no'.
