I'm (finally) dipping toe into the home recording waters, and tonight I set up my little rig - PreSonus AudioBox USB interface and Studio One software. Since the P/J was so close by, I had to use it for my first experience. Signal path = bass > GrooveTubes DITTO DI > AudioBox.

I have TONS to learn about mixing and effects, but hopefully you'll hear the goodness of the instrument. I soloed the P pickup for the bass line, and the J pickup for the head. Chords had the blend centered. EQ was totally flat, although I was in active mode. This bass is flat-out amazing!

Holdsg, Ron, and Jerry.... Nice Basses! I'm still waiting on mine. The custom aspect of my order is delaying it a bit.

Nice playing Jerry! I can't wait for my P/J. Don't start lurking around the Gear Slutz forums..... you though bass was expensive...

Unlike past Lulls I've had, the T5 came with a certificate with the pertinent information, including weight. Mike stated it was 8.8 lbs. It feels a little heavier, but I haven't checked. It feels heavier than my V5 and PJ5.

The neck is "out there" a la the Gibby T-Bird and so there is more of a reach to the lower frets. It's not bad, but different from other basses. Also, the neck is a bit thicker top to bottom compared to other Lulls. The width is about the some, but it's a baseball bat in comparison to my other Lulls. However, Mike did his usual fantastic job rolling the fingerboard edges and so it's a breeze to play, even with my small fingers.

Balance is pretty good overall and far better than the Gibson. The body seems to be a bit thicker and coupled with a bolt-on maple neck, may help explain the improved balance. I found that resting my forearm on top of the body helps steady the bass a bit.

One area I noticed is limited is access to the 16th and higher frets. The lower bout is in the way a bit. That's the only real nit I have.

The finish on this bass is a thing of beauty. The stain makes the woodgrain pop out and is very eye-catching. The clearcoat is nice and uniform and not sticky at all. The pickguard has an off-white tint to it to add to the vintage appeal. After looking at it, though, I wonder how the bass would have looked without the guard in place.

Now for the important part - the sound. Make no mistake, there is nothing polite or "hi-fi" about the T5. It's best described as Gene Simmons once said in an interview, "dirty, stinking manhood". :D The T5 is pure, unadulterated, rock! The bottom end is strong. Put this thing in front of a cranked SVT, hit a low C and you will have small animals and those with weak constitutions crapping themselves. It responds well to pick playing, although I rarely do that. For fingerstyle playing, it may sound a little congested if you have any sort of mid boost on your amp. I find a slight cut of low mids and maybe a slight upper mid boost help it. I also like to leave the bridge pickup at full stun, roll the neck back to about 7 and the tone to about 8 or 9. Oh, I should also mention that this bad boy has about as much output as my V5 with the Audere and maybe more than my Lakland 55-02. It makes its presence felt. :hyper:

In summary, I like it. A little pricey, but you only live once. :bassist:
