The Mike Lull Club Part 3

This baby just came in the mail yesterday... 2nd Lull I have owned, basically my dream bass (although I didn't think I would be crazy about the candy apple red until I saw it in person).
It came with a pearloid guard on it which was a little flashy for me, luckily the bass shipped with the extra mint green guard.
This bass was built for Namm 2011 and is featured on both the custom builds section and the color options section of Mike's website.
It has the Fralins and Bart 2 band pre w/ VTC. Sorry about the bad pic, my house has strange lighting and it was taken with my iPad.

VTC is a Sadowsky thing, I think you are referring to passive tone control (which is essentially the same thing)

Hey guys new member! I want everyone to know i don't own a bass. Mike is building me a custom sx guitar and thought i would join the club to look at his work and share what i have chosen to be made. here are the specs!
Model: Mike lull sx
Body wood: Swamp Ash
Top: Koa
Neck: birds eye maple
Radius: 12-16
frets: ss "jumbo" Black dots
Bridge: hipshot fixed "chrome"
tuners: gotoh delta 21:1 "chrome"
controls: 1 volume push pull "chrome
Switch: 3 way
Pickups: BKP ceramic warpig bridge "alnico neck" "black uncovred"
pickguard: none
finish: poly gloss on the body and headstock sating on the neck.
The only thing out of the ordinary that mike will be doing for me on this build is shaving the neck down to match a usa charvel. The only thing that hasn't been fully figured out is the stain on the swamp ash. Probably do something similar to the koa bass mike built or i will try to match the koa better.

Success. The bass is exactly the way I want it now.
I found a parts source for Fender part number 004 8688 049, which is a bag of two 3/16 hex truss rod nuts. It's what comes standard on current USA Fender basses. Direct swap for the flat head adjuster nut. Just for kicks, I also ordered a Fender long t-handle ball-end 3/16 hex wrench. Works perfectly.
The "extra" nut is already spoken for, but anyone else interested to convert theirs from flat to hex, these nuts are a direct replacement, and are not expensive.
The 250 mid/passive tone stack also works great.
The bass continues to kick ass.

I got to play this one today. It was a great bass all around. Mike has stepped up his game over the past few years. Lighter builds and build quality are top notch. Playability is good (well above average), but his PLEK leaves something to be desired for me. I contemplated a build of a JT-5 today but he won't do what I want him to, so I might do a build with his T-bird pickups instead. Saves me quite a bit of money, so I'm not terribly broken up about it.
Over the last two years, I've been able to play quite a few high end basses. And while non of them were hard to play, the easiest have been my two Lulls.
And those are the only two that have been PLEK'd. Maybe it's just a coincidence but I've attributed it to the PLEK.
