Has anyone else bought issue #1 of the relaunched Mad Magazine?

Instead of the "usual gang of idiots," they have a new staff. The new logo is similar to the original logo from the '50s. They still have Al Jaffe, Sergio Aragones, Fold Ins and Spy vs Spy. It seems like the same wise*** humor with a little more of a stoner, adult, edgy slant. They seem to be courting controversy. One of the features in the new issue is "A Mad Look at Harassment" that makes digs at several hot button issues.

IMO some of the parody writing isn't quite as good, but overall I like the new attitude. It's been years since they've had that real biting satire. It feels a bit like the counterculture edge they had back in the 70s. So I give the relaunch two thumbs up.

The new cover and outer mail cover are below but I censored the finger gesture and questionable word because of TB rules about profanity.

I have great memories of Mad magazine that go back to my youth in the 80's and 90's. I remember it being funny and edgy, but also remember hanging with my buddies on our bikes and riding down to the corner store to buy a copy then play some Excitebike or Dragons Lair.
I don't want to taint those, so I'll leave this new version well enough alone.

Loved MAD (and Cracked) back in the 70s/early 80s. I even bought the entire MAD collection on CD. Spy vs Spy, Aragones' margin cartoons, and the Lighter Side of...etc, etc...still funny decades later.

But like others have said, it likely won't be the same, and even though I may check out an issue or two, it'll probably be too political or PC for my liking. Seemingly everything that's re-made these days falls into those categories.

Whoa! I just saw the $5.99 price! On second thought, maybe I won't be looking in after all! :cigar:
