The Next Step

Hey guys im looking to move up to a more expensive bass it will be my second one and just wandering if you guys have any recommendations? I have been looking at the Fender Jazz. What you guys reckon? Any other brands i should look into?

Cheers

What you are looking for is a Spector!

First off, what is your first bass? Are you looking to get the same feel and sound? Fender Jazz' are nice and their are a ton of companies making Jazz basses that are expensive and super nice.

You may need to leave a little more info as to what youre looking for in a bass to get recommendations. And what are you calling "expensive"? You have to remember, some guys on here have no prob dropping 3 grand on a bass. I shudder at the thought. My $900 used Spector was enough.

Give us some more info. Just a thought.

I am currently using a Greg Bennett 4 string and it was my first. I am just looking for something with a strong sound that is versatile for a number of music genres from hard rock to old rock. By expensive i mean over 2 grand.

Cheers

I'm not sure where you live, but in Canada, the '62 reissue Jazz is about $1850 and the '75 is $50 more. Both are terrific all-round basses.

For north of two large, There's always the Sadowsky Metro series, but they have a more unique, modern voice. The Fenders have a more familiar sound -- kind of like old, comfy slippers.

For the Fender sound at a better QC level, you can't go wrong with a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn. Alleva Coppollo has many fans around here as well, but I don't know what they tend to cost.

And you should *definitely* check out a Valenti. Nino's on this forum quite a bit, and he can make an axe to your needs.

Thanks - I live in Australia I have a look into those what about like Ibanez and Yamaha. I played a fender jazz when getting my amp and it sounded absolutely amazing.

Thanks you guys are very helpful
