It's not the message to which we object. Honestly, many of us schooled Russ on his current stance, back when he referred to himself as a "pop artist" and held a pretty substantial disdain for cover musicians. It's the constant repetition, multiple posts per day, day after day. It's exhausting and it detracts from an otherwise useful forum. No one begrudges Blue his opinion. We just wish he would share it a bit less....... ;)

Guy,

Have fun, maybe share some of the things your doing musically with us. That's the sort of stuff I never tire of.

I really don't have that much power, I wouldn't let any of my opinions phase you one way or the other. Do I belabor my points at times? Yeah and that's something I could watch more closely.

Thing is, I do look at some of you as more "once a monther family guys" than rock guys. And there is nothing wrong with that. I know my perspective comes from a different place.

My band will not last forever and who knows how I will look at things a year or 2 from now.

OK... I'll ask it.

Anyone find it funny that just a few years ago Blue was using this same smug, condescending attitude to belittle guy's that played in cover bands?

I personally find it HI-LARIOUS!!

edit: Just saw that Guy mentioned this a while back...

Awesome! Man, that sure sheds a whole different light on the whole 'ohhhh... I just don't understand...' possum bit.

That made my night.

+1. Yeah, and we (I) think Blue is a nice friendly old man - different, but Blue is cool and he means well.

Sometimes I like to tease him a little, but only in friendly fun.

Hi Blue - have a good weekend. :)

Cheers,
Joe

I agree, it's just the way I am. I may change my current position in a few years. But regardless I will still have fun with rock and roll bands and gigging.

Hi Joe,

I'm not old, I missed the Civil War by about 5 years.:D I'm older, quite different from being old.

Means well, very true as I mentioned I come from a better and more significant time and place in Rock & Roll than most of you.

Joe, have a good weekend. I have a pretty significant gig tomorrow night in Grafton at The Bridge Inn that I'm looking forward too.

Join Maple Road - After Festival partys at the Bridge Inn
Join us at the Bridge Inn after the festival both nights! Shuttle buses will drop you at the Bridge or the Hotel....The Bridge Inn offers FREE shuttle to Hotels in Ozaukee County!!!

Blue.. Do you not see how smug, condescending and rude something like this sounds???

You ever read a post by guys like Jimmy or Joe Nerve saying crap about week end warrior cover guys? These are guys who play their bass for a living. But they have class and never use their success as some kind of tool or weapon to make themselves feel good.

Oh, he does. It's just the way he is. Just a total lack of class and his credibility bank is pretty much empty.

Yes I do, sort of. There are a lot of guys that have families and are in the "once a month" gig phase of their lives. Whats wrong with that?

There are also guys that for a lot of different reasons are in between bands. I only hope they are able to get back in the game and have some fun.

I don't know much about Jimmy, but Joe is in a league of his own on the bass, he's very accomplished.

I wouldn't say I've had any real success. I'm merely a bar band kind that somehow stays busy.

Peace

Class? I guess that's relative.

Credibility, I bench mark that by the number of responses and productivity to my threads and commentary.

Well, we do know you will inevitably show up to slap someone on the back and say, "see kid, that stuff you're doing is a waste of time, just a waste of time, come do what I'm doing." About as boorish as telling someone obviously crestfallen over a personal relationship, " and that's why I stay single." So a bunch of posts are made trying to shoo you away. And you persistently bounce back up.:hmm:

To paraphrase the ending of "War Pigs"
bluewine laughing spreads his wings
Oh lord yeah!

Your constant suggestion is boorish is because we've all already done covers, that's where everybody starts off, we know what that is about. It should be obvious that is not what we were hoping to do!

I'm beginning to get a little confused. I thought this thread was about discussing why some TB'ers prefer playing originals and why some TB'ers prefer to play covers.

That is an interesting subject, and makes for good reading to see the varying viewpoints and preferences (all which are totally valid).

However, this thread seems to have gotten sidetracked and is focusing more on "hey, let's see how bad we can try and make Blue look in front of other TB'ers."

 :hmm:

If you have something unflattering to say about a fellow TB'er (which, to me, seems like an odd thing to want to do), please PM them rather than post so as to not derail the subject of the thread.

I think I'm more of a "are you sure your really happy?" type of guy. I'm not convinced that all originals guys are.

How many lists have I read about these bands falling apart, bad band experiences, playing for free and then someone saying I'm thinking about going the covers route. Most of you have seen this stuff happen.

Be careful Blue! Humans have this bizarre behavioral trait of reacting adversely when the truth is held up in front of them! (especially when it was of their own doing!....*self responsibility*.....two words many humans try to avoid at all costs LOL!) The most common behavioral reaction from humans is to lash back or find fault with others. So just be ready for that. To their defense, they can't help it......they are humans. Hundreds of thousands of years of evolution and development on this planet has gotten us here. Lovely, eh?
