I’m currently working on a black 32”Jaguar bass with a maple fretboard. I’ve re-shaped the headstock to make it a bit smaller, sleeved the tuner mounting holes to accommodate some lighter Wilkinson tuners, routed the body to include Jazz bass pickups with a Reverend Split Brick pickup sandwiched between them, changing all the hardware to black and installing a new orange pearl pickguard. Should be done soon.

The custom headlesses are awesome, especially the blue one. 🤤
Which bridge/tuner system is that?

The MTD LK series has really come into its own. :)
Yes they have. When I first saw them online, I thought the colors made them look cheap.
I took a chance and bought the Candy Apple Red LK5 from Beaver Felton at Bass Central.
It was awesome from day one and even though I have 17 basses, this is the only 5 string I own and play.
I’ve heard guys say that a B string under 35” scale doesn’t sound right. I’ve had 35s and 34s, but this 32” sound punchier and tighter while being deep. The B string is tight, not loose and sloppy.

Here’s a progress report on the modified 32”Jaguar Bass I’m working on. I was able to get the J-Bass pickup pockets routed and all 3 pickups mounted. I used two Wilkinson J-Bass pickups and a Reverend Split Brick in the center position. I may replace the Wilkinson pickups with Bartolinis at a later date.
I had a friend bore a hole in the edge of the body for the jack since I’m using all 3 holes in the control plate (volume, blend & tone). I also drilled a small hole in the control plate for a mini toggle to select Split Brick, J Bass pickups or all three.
The blend is used for the J-Bass pickups only.
This configuration will allow me to select any pickup or any combination of pickups.
The headstock has been reshaped to resemble some of the smaller traditional Fender bass headstocks. i has a Fender decal to use on it but decided to use one of my custom ones. Since this is modeled a bit after the Febder Stu Hamm Urge, I named it “Urgent 32”.
More to come later when the final parts arrive.

Just got a used Benevolent Carnival 32” 6 string. It is so comfortable, super fun, and full of gorgeous tones. Fully passive Vol/Vol/Tone
It’s so resonant, warm and clear but it can also get that jazz bass growl and wooly bass neck pickup tone. I need to let it acclimate to the cool wet Seattle weather compared to the south Florida climate it came from. Then I’ll slap on some new strings and set it up.

Specs
Brand: Benevolent Bass
Model: Carnival
Year: 2022
6-String Bass
32" Scale Length
Quilted Maple Top
Alder Body
3-Piece Maple Neck
Padauk Fingerboard
Bone Nut
24 Frets
17mm String Spacing
Aguilar Soapbar Pickup
Black Hipshot Hardware
Front Dot Inlays
Matching Topwood Finger Ramp
Dunlop Strap Locks

Hi everyone☀️

Short introduction,
I was thinking about a medium scale P-Bass. I like the Squier Jaguar, I wouldn’t wanna go PJ and I like the the charcoal frost Affinity, soo I thought it should be possible to just take a pickguard from a PJ drop it in the Affinity and be good.
I checked, a MM pickup is 48mm wide, but the two split coils adding up to 54/56mm. The pickup cavity is routed a bit larger but I don’t know if big enough.
Has anyone tried that, because I think that would be a simple way to put together a medium scale P bass.

Would be interested what you think about the idea. 😃
Thanks in advance ✌🏼

Have you considered just turn the J volume off or desolder/clip the J wiring?

Another option is to have the J pickup route turned into a humbucker... Humbuckers are very useful combined with a P IMO.

Thanks great ideas, but i really like the charcoal frost metallic from the affinity, that’s why I tried to make that one work somehow 😃

Well, it might work without modification. It might need a bit of wood removal (not too big a headache, you'd rather need to remove wood than add it). And you might look into a quad coil pickup or a p pickup in a humbucker shell (those would give you offset split options).

Personally, I like your original idea of a p pickup with a new pickguard even if that meant having to remove some wood under the pickguard to make it fit.

Here it is! I decided to name it Furariba, after the small Japanese fire demon, because this is a small fiery beast of a bassView attachment 4113317
Hi - just found this post - I'm curious about the neck profile - do you know if it's a Jazz bass profile like on the JB62M models? Reason I'm asking is that I also had a Fender medium scale Aerodyne bass and although the neck with at the nut was still 38mm the neck itself was about 2mm junkier - not a bad neck but it felt quite different to the JB62M.
