I looked long and hard before I made my decision. I'm actually a guitar player and a crappy one at that. Been hacking away on and off for about 30 years.
I decided to jump into the bass world and I actually think this suites me much better.
After looking at everything I could actually put my hands on, the Oman 5 really fit what I was looking for. Great price, quality, sounds excellent, great action, looks awesome, etc.
Also picked up a Fender Rumble 100 to go with it.

My friend Mitchel who's the lead singer and bass player for Fletcher plays a $4500 Modulus and after he played my cheap little Schecter he loved it. In fact he said "it's about a 6th of the cost and I think I'm little pissed." Kidding of course but he really liked it and wants to try it on one of their gigs.

I am still tweaking the VI...needs to come down a frag in the string height, I been slowly flattening out the curve in the neck 1/4 turn each day since it's so new...I initially wired it as per the 1962 factory diagram, but the 4th switch(or Strangle switch as it is known) really does strangle the tone, and cuts the volume bigtime, so it now has just 3 switches(on/off for each p/up) and no cap in the switchbay at all. I also rewired the vol tone as per the mod Fender did to the P Bass controls in 55. it has a 59 Jag/Jazzmaster 0.05 PIO repro cap in the control bay, which makes everything rich and creamy, with CTS pots of course The SD Antiquity II's are now growling at their full potential. There is a large amount of bottom end and mids - and the alder body contributes to the tonal darkness, which is fine, as I play it in the baritone register with baritone gauge strings, my band is a 3 piece and it puts out heaps of grunt which we need when I'm not on the bass...which is half our set. When I can afford it I'll get Curtis to do a fat set for it with RWRP in the middle position...

Good looking collection as well. I've been thinking about getting a Fender VI, or a Schecter Hellcat VI, just because no one around here plays one. Also because I go through lots of Distortion/Fuzz in one of my bands and would love a VI for chords and still being in the low register.
