The P Bass Cowbell

I was just reading and replied to jhb138's thread about fender bass chrome pickup covers and it made me wonder how many of you younger guys know the old cowbell trick that you can do with the p bass pickup cover?

Yep, you can get a cowbell like sound out of one through the amplifier.

The way I've always done it was to mute my strings with my left hand and pop it with my right hand ring finger. If you have a drum stick handy, you could use that too, but giving a firm pop with the fingerprint side of your middle or ring finger works pretty well..you might have bump the volume up a bit too.

Yes very cool! Try loosening the screws just a bit to get a rattle that's a little more brash.

I saw Will Lee doing that decades ago. He used a comb or a drumstick. He did this more live in clubs, rarely on Letterman.
