The pedal that started it all....

What pedal is the first one that got you hooked on effects?

Mine was a Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive. I paid 15 hard earned dollars for it. I was 14 years old. I dont know what ever happened to that pedal.

That started it though.....now I have 6 pedals on my board and about 10 lying around the house and 5 or six on loan...two in my car.

What was your gateway pedal?

A Zoom 506II multi. There was one patch which made me go 'OMG! I want to sound like this all the time! It was a really synthy distortion with an octave down and a flanger (or maybe it was a phaser).

I had a couple false starts with an original Zoom 506, that got trampled at a show and broken. Then it was an Ibanez TS-9 (that's the one in the Maxon frame right?) but poverty forced me to sell it.

I'd say that a Q-tron got actually go it started for me, and that wasn't too long ago. I traded it for some other effects. I may not have kept it but now that I'm stable financially I can definitely call myself an FX junkie.

I used to sing...well, scream...in a band called TWO DAYS...
I saw Vision of Disorder play and saw their singer using a delay pedal for his voice that he carried around w/ him on stage, so I wanted to try it out. I bought a Boss DD-3 and love it.

When I started playing bass for real a few years back, the first pedal I bought was the Sansamp 3 programmable jawn (yuck!) which I sold and rebought a Boss DD-3...it's all gone fast from there! :)

I remember goofing around with some effects in high school but it wasn't until college that I actually started using effects in my playing. The first was a Boss Slow Gear that was given to me by my guitar player in the most successful band I was ever in back in around 1998.

I only used it in two songs (and later sold it for $25 which of course I deeply regret now) but that's what gave me the bug.

After college I was working full time and was really just a bedroom player and sold off all my effects. I started up again about three years ago and the first two pedals I bought were an EMMA DiscumBOBulator (from EricF) and a SansAmp BDDI (from RAM) here on TB.

Some piece of junk distortion I bought second hand in the early 80's. It was plastic and had a male 1/4" plug that plugged directly into the guitar or bass. It was cheap and noisy. Then I got a DOD chorus and it was like heroin. Been addicted to effects ever since.
