Hey guys has anyone seen the white pentabuzz on here for sale. Seems in good enough condition but there is a crack in the back of the neck near the headstock. It doesn’t look deep, just wondering on thoughts/ possible truss rod issue?

My brother has taken delivery of a really nice 1989 MVP5 in Cherryburst. It looks to be in lovely condition and he has been telling me how great it sounds. I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but I am eager to get a look at it. We are twin bothers and now own an MVP5 and a Pentabuzz between us.

Here is the MVP 5 mentioned above. It's a 1989 and in great condition with only a few little marks on it. It had a little buckle rash mark on the back but it's been coated over. It was supplied with the original case and truss rod tool. The colour is super rich and lustrous despite being nearly 30 years old.

It's a fantastic instrument, it oozes quality and has a great sound with the Barts and the active preamp. The neck is pretty much dead on straight in terms of relief, but the action is a tiny bit high above the 12th fret so I will drop the saddle height a little at some point, but it still plays really nicely so I'm not in a rush to do it. Overall it's a fantastic instrument and it slots nicely into my collection.

Can someone please allocate me a members number? I'd love to be an official club member!

I'm curious if the width of the fretboard at the 24th fret is the same on both? (could the 17.5mm spacing be made to 19 with a new bridge).

They're different.

The 19mm bridges have a 3" width at the 24th position whereas the 17.5mm are 2.75" across.

It’s a 92, but the fingerboard was refinished by Pedulla in 2014. It’s got 17.5 spacing whereas the mvp beside it has 19. It has a ding on the headstock, lower horn and one on the back but they are all small, I’m impressed for a 92. Not the exact color I was going for but tough to pick up a buzz in that shape for less than 2k so I took it! Eventually will have Pedulla refinish both.

Mike refinished & updated a couple of Pentas for me last year - beautiful work, as always. I haven't asked specifically about his retirement plans, but I wouldn't let "eventually" go too long... Enjoy your basses!

I am loving that MVP5, it's got a depth of ability beyond the immediately obvious. It took a little while to get the pickup pan and tone right in the sweet spot to get the highs singing and the low B sounding deep and tight.

It's no wonder the MVP/Buzz design has changed so little over the years as it is a fantastic design. It balances so nicely on a strap, the neck through joint is amazingly comfortable and the whole thing oozes quality. The ergonomics are superb. Despite being a big old block of maple it is one of my lighter basses.

The quality of the finish for a thirty year old instrument is incredible. It looks better at 29 years old than my Adamovic did after five.

Yes, I’ve seen that on Ishibashi’s site. It’s higher than I’m willing to pay for a used one. They occasionally reduce selling prices in 90-day intervals, so I’m keeping an eye on it.
