So true, so true. Especially on this particular topic. It's funny though because, while I very much like my choice of compressor, I like to peruse these threads to see what people like and dislike about ones they've tried. As I've gotten better at understanding how to use compression, I find myself wondering if there is another one I would like even more.

Of course, I'm very much aware of what's happened to other unfortunate souls who have gone down that rabbit hole before me. TB is littered with threads documenting the money and time spent.

There’s a D, but I left it out because of the rule-of-three.
D is tangential conversations loosely related to the OP.

This can be particularly entertaining when the OP has changed course midway through the thread, but not indicated it by editing the OP, so on page 9 of the thread new posters are replying to the OP, who may have made a 180 on page 6.

Wow that was some learned posting! Bit of a comp novice myself but totally agree about “horses for courses”. Have a Markbass set up and used to run an EBS multicomp into it. I now use a Cali which is better but I miss the EBS from time to time for the tube setting.

I don't want a compressor to change this tone; I do want a compressor to control dynamics.
There is sometimes a perceived bass boost by how it sits in the mix which I am OK with.

Demeter took care of building my compressor for me. I haven’t found anything to lead me away from it in the past fifteen years or so. Great product.

I'll 2nd on the TC Spectracomp. Wasn't all that thrilled, then dialed in the Nathan East setting. It's pretty great and dead simple.
