The perfect strings...have you found yours?

As you can see I'm still working on it after 53 years loll...although I grew up with Roto 66's since the 70's, especially on my 4003 Rics and still love the sound of them on most basses..Havent found any bad DR sets..I like the DR Neons and DR Red Devils..EB strings are also quite nice sounding and cheaper.
I have a Ric 4003 2017 model, 1991 Peavey Dyna Bass 5, 2017 EB Music Man Stingray 5 and various other basses (Peavey T-40 etc) but those 3 I play a lot.
At 69y.o. it's all still a giant costly experiment..I better decide soon as I'm running out of years..lol

Gonna change the DR Neon Whites for the Black Beauties next...anything for a bit of contrast loll

I’m still a rookie bass player and I now have 5 bass guitars. I’ve tried Rotosound, Dunlop and Ernie Ball flat wounds and roundwounds. But my son just gave me a set of D’Addario chrome flatwounds and I love them!

I doubt I will ever find the perfect string, but I certainly have found string sets that I like enough to use more than a couple of times. And, each of my basses is a little different and tend to sound better with different strings. Right now, DR Sunbeams on my Am Performer Jazz, FrankenFender Jazz, and Precision Deluxe, DR Hi-Beams on my Geddy Lee Jazz, and Fender flats on my Nate Mendel Precision. Still working on what strings work best on my '99 MIA Jazz, right now they have D'Addario XL165s.

I'm very happy with the La Bella 760F-MUS on my Mustang. It's a perfect fit and they sound great. Fat, round sounding and polished super smooth.

Spent 20 odd years with round wounds because I was told that they were the best.
Then Carol Kaye mentioned in an interview TI Jazz Flats and she's right! I've a couple of basses with Status tapewounds which are nice too.

Rookie here too. You're ahead of me, I only have 2 basses. I sold off a few guitars I did not use while experimenting, so probably more basses coming. Which bass do you have the D'Addario chrome flatwounds on? How does it feel to have a lighter "E" and "A" string?

Roto 66 normally but I've just put a set of Dean Markeley blue steels on my p bass after someone on TB was singing their praises and they are amazing (haven't broken them in yet so I could just be that new string thing)

Have been playing GHS Pressurewounds for over 15 years and just recently Put a set of Precision Flats on my Squier P-bass they sound and feel great. Also started using Balanced Nickel and Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats for some variety.

This is probably a very un-TB thing to say but, honestly, I'm just not all that picky (no pun intended) about strings. I've used a wide variety of flats, rounds, and other variants over the years and have rarely come across any that I really didn't like, and I've been pretty happy with almost everything I've tried. I seem to just adapt to whatever strings I happen to be using at the time. But if I had to pick one that seems to suit me best overall, I think it would be TI flats.

Roto 66 Rounds are as good as it gets for me.I hear raved about T.I.s but $75.00 is more than I'd pay for strings.

I wish someone would make strings that sounded like 10 year old dead strings but kept the tuning and intonation.

I really like Curt Mangan's bass strings. They stay bright very long and are easier on the fingers than many brands. I mostly use the 95 stainless steel, or nickle plated 100 for smoother tone and touch... also great rickey custom set!

For rounds I like old strings. Preferably Fender 7250 for my 35" basses. The older the better.

I haven't settled on acoustic strings yet, but the guitar design is evolving so been swapping the same fender flats for consistency.

D'Addario ProSteels, usually 50-105. Inexpensive, available just about anywhere, and the tone lasts longer than any other string I've tried. I just got two sets from my mother-in-law for Christmas.

TI's are around $44 here in Europe, La Bella's are the same.

D'Addario Chromes, EB Cobalts and Dunlop flats are all much more expensive, makes little sense for Europeans to buy them.

Rotosound swing bass 45-105. Been using them on every bass I’ve owned since 1970. I love that trebly sound I get with them. I once tried flats on my alembic. That lasted 20 minutes. I’m gonna throw a set on my new paranormal base as soon as I take it out of the box.
