I'd do a bunch of coats of oil first to build up a decent layer of lacquer/oil. Then you can lightly sand that with say 800-1000.

Will try that. Have sanded the neck up to 400 grid before I started applying oil.

Hope to finish the bass, mandolin and the guitar this year!

I am still applying oil on the neck. Have started wet sanding with the oil, the neck are becoming quizen nice.

As I am fed up trying to spraypaint and failing big time, I will use sombody who actually can do this... On all 3 instruments.

I see that the images for the guitar and mandolin are not showing anymore...

Now I have sendt the 3 musketerer to a shop that paint cars. They will all have a Candy red metallic colour. Can't wait to get them back and put them finished!

Little have been done. The bass had to go back to the paintshop due to an error (from them). I am manking the pickguards tomorrow. Thinking of using a band saw and sand the edges. Hope it goes well, or I have to make a template and use a router to finish them.

The mandolin is finished, at last... The pickguards need to get the screws in, and I need a string tree for the lighter strings. But it is playable! Have to fiddle a bit with string height an pickup height, but it works next up is the guitar.

The guitar is allmost finished, have lost the nut, used the strap buttons for other projects and the wife have thrown the strings... Will buy new tomorrow!

Aaaand the Bass is also finished (exept for the trussrod cover).
My youngest son has taken possesion of this one

Now I can go on to other projects, a 4003 Rickenbacker looks like a fun project..
