That was my 1st bass too! The one thing I have in common with that guy.Just before they snapped that, Gene grabbed me around both shoulders and told me I needed to spend more time in the gym and less time playing bass. We talked one on one during the breaks in the SIRIUS Town Hall. I asked him about his 1st bass, and if he ever considered moving to a 5. I explained how I used it to go an octave lower in 2nd part of the bassline in Rock & Roll All Night. He told me that was "interesting". I realize he was just patronizing me, but it was cool anyway. He did remember me as the lone bassist in the crowd once picture time came, so that was cool too.
The thing I thought was coolest though was when I asked him about his 1st bass. It was a Japanese Beetle Bass copy. I asked him if he still had it. He seemed genuine when he said he wished he did, if even for old times sake. No matter how much you have, sometimes it's the little things that mean the most, even to guys like that.
About my brother--yes. Me--notsomuch.has anyone made a Ben Stein joke yet?
