The ric-o-sound jack on your bass is a stereo jack that splits each pickup to a seperate channel. The push-pull tone pot engauges and disenguages the .0047 capacitor. The .0047 capacitor truncates all of the bass and the low mids from the bridge pickup. Also the newer Rics have all 330k ohm pots which gives the bass a brighter more edgy sound. The pickups are 11k ohm single coil which gives you a clearer signal and also the 60 cycle hum. The fretboard is finished bubinga which gives you a bright tone. The body is maple which is also a bright tone wood. The pickup location on a Ric is different than most basses and the neck pickup is a true neck pickup.
All of these elements come together to give the Ric its tone. When compared to a jazz or p-bass the fender will have more low end on the E and A strings and thinner sounding D and G strings. The Ric has more mids and bite on the E and A strings and more bass and low mids on the D and G strings, especially when you play farther up the neck.
RIC 5 that was very informative. clear and concise. Thanks
