One of my bass hero's is Pete Trewaves of Marillion and Transatlantic. He use a single pup Rickenbacker which looks like a 4001/ 4003, is it a 4000?
Didn't find a picture of him with this ric but found an other picture of him which is also very cool:

I still remember buying "Script For a Jester's Tear" on vinyl the day it came out in Canada and being totally blown away.

Here is my '79 4001 Ric. I put Seymour Duncan pups in it to up the output (don't worry, I still have the originals). The original owner lost the pickup cover so I replaced it with a new one. It's a little rough around the edges, but oh-so-sweet! I think all the finish blemishes give it tones of character. It is also the only "non-Fender" bass I own.

When you have a Ric, you suddenly get quite a bit more attention as bass player.

so, I finally experienced the transformation of a Jetglo Rick underneath a black light. Played a show last week where the predominant lighting in the room was black light, and man did my bass go chameleon on me! it went from bright turquoise to a softer blue, through to a greenish thing. Really neat. I attempted to document the changes, but the pictures really don't come close to doing it justice. Playing the bass was kind of a trip for me the whole set!

Well after 40+ years of playing I've finally nabbed my first Ric. It's a 4003 Jetglo mfg. Oct. '84. It plays pretty good but does need to be set up with a new set of strings. This one has the adjustment for the neck on the body side of the neck. When I took the pickguard off to adjust the neck. I noticed the ends of the truss rods have bent downward. Is this the norm on these or is it time for new truss rods? The nuts move freely with not a whole lot of torque needed to tighten. Any suggestions would be of help and greatly appreciated.

So true. Everybody likes to hear it and see it up close. It's almost embarassing sometimes because I don't know if I can live up to the coolness of my instrument.

But it is in great shape. Last time I saw one on the bay it was 5k? Guy said it once belonged to Tony Geranios

Yeah, a really rare, and very beautiful condition 4002.

If it wouldn't sell at 5k, he's nuts to try 25.
Starting to think 5k might be almost reasonable, though.

Pretty cool, huh?
I would get that with my FireGlo 4000 under normal stage lights.
The red would turn green, greyish, sea green, and bright orange depending on the colour of the lighting.
Midnight Blue goes from black to purple to bright electric blue at times.

You can straighten the ends, but there is a procedure to follow to avoid damage.

I fixed the rods in my '77 4001 which were bent down solidly into the wood when I got it.

That 4002 is overpriced. $2500 to $5000 is more realistic.

The 4002 is rare because they didn't sell well.

Basically I can't which Ric is better then a new 4003 or a new 4004. The 4003 is "better" then the 4001/4002 etc. The only reason I want a 4001 is because I want THE 4001CS. But is it better or worth more then my 4003? I'm not sure.
Don't you Ric5 want a 4001CS-5??

A small question regarding string tension. Are the Roto's 66 strings high/ medium or low tension compares to other rounds of the same style? And is there any different tension between the 66 steel and the 66 nickel?
