The Serial Compression Experiment

A small update to my serial compression experiments. I am now plugging the serial comps into my GK amp. Interestingly, all of the previous experiments were direct to the mixer, as if I was playing a gig -- because my amp stays home for 99% of my gigs.

The noise floor level on the sustain knob didn't get noisy at noon, like it did direct to my mixer board. Instead, I was able to get nearly to 3:00. With the signal comp'd in serial into the GK preamp section, I was achieving a very mid-y overdrive that sounded pretty good.

...on a business trip reading this at a restaurant and just embarrassed myself laughing out loud so hard! You got back to where you started...but did your signal have fun in the meantime? :D

I was scratching my head at that too. I had a vision of Ralph Wiggum saying "The rat symbolizes obviousness".

I'd quite like to try having two subtle comps in series, but I still don't have one, let alone two. :eyebrow: Thanks for the sound clips, it helps to correct the sound I imagined the comps would make.

Pollinator, the beauty of this experiment, I believe, is that you could take two relatively cheap comps that have enough quiet space, so that you can use them in serial. The Guyatone comps can be had for $50 at Guitar Center and on eBay.

I traded for the first ST-2, and bought the second one for $45 from GC.
