The Song You Hate Most to Play

My guitar player and I would slam a full bottle of beer during the "I know I know I know...." part of Aint No Sunshine. We'd clink them together, and guzzle them down before the last I know. I kinda miss playing that song......

ha! You'd love to sub in my band - our singer goes off on that section sometimes . . . probably have enough time to chug a few, go to the bathroom, barf them out, have a cup of coffee and be back on stage in time to tune :D

All Summer Long + Sweet Home would be my least favorite, but Sweet Home can be tolerable if the drummer is good.

Call Me The Breeze is quickly becoming my least favorite song. If you play *anything* but the same three or four similar fills, it ruins the song. :(

I keep suggesting we should add It's Howdy Doody Time to the set list. It's just as fun to play.

Here's mine:

OK. I really like playing in the band I'm with now. We have a great selection of tunes, good musicians, nice guys, no egos and the venues are fun places to play. I really like the set list, even songs like "Mustang Sally"... and I can even somehow get into "Old Time Rock and Roll." But one song I hate playing is "Sweet Home Alabama." It's three notes (D, C and G) over and over until after the solo, I get to play a F once. It's also not a song that lends itself to fiddling around with extra fills on bass due to the guitar work so busy. It's become a band joke that some day I'm going to teach my wife to play it, so I can take "my union break." To make matters worse, we do "All Summer Long and go into "Sweet Home Alabama", extending the bordom two fold.

So here's what I did (and will continue to do from now on).
We started playing it two weeks ago. My wife was at the gig. Knowing the band joke, came running up to me at the beginning of the song. I motioned her to go to the front of the dance floor. So, using my wireless on my bass, I joined her on the dance floor while playing. The audience and other dancers got a kick out of it, the band started laughing and my wife loved it. Honestly, I stole the idea from the 'Dancing while playing' thread about a month ago.

Not a wild story, but it made "Sweet Home Alabama" tolerable.

None. The people I play with make even the most "mundane" song bearable and even enjoyable sometimes. Never "hate". I'm lucky on a number of levels.

...and the audience will be able to discern your hate, even if they don't tell you that they do... and I think that's important to remember. Can you entertain others if you can't even entertain yourself? I'm not sure of the answer, but I throw it out there for consideration....

My lead guitarist is a real modern day dude, he says any covers have to be these certain songs from 2005 onward. I myself have always liked playing music from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. He's also a metal head, so when we do his covers, I use my left hand to drink something while my right strums and does on/off palm muting

i used to be in a punk/grunge/alt rock band and our drummer and singer had HORRABLE tastes in music

smells like teen spirit - nirvana (love nirvana.... hate that song)
kirsty are you doing ok - the offspring (love the offspring... hate that song.... i would have rather played dirty magic)
last resort - papa roach (i hated that song more than ANYTHING... with the acception of)
all summer long - kid rock (ramones made the 4 note song work..... but this song makes me wanna hang myself)

Mine has gotta be Hit me with Your Best shot.

Hate the song, but Ironincally it's part of one of my best "gig Stories"

We played it as an encore and a HUGE chick fight broke out!! There was hair pulling, nail scratching, slapping, kicking, screaming and even a boob or two pop out. It was Hilarious on sooo many levels!

There are just so many of theses tunes...

My band has come up with a "shimmer list". It's a bunch of all the SUPER overplayed, boring, tired songs such as "Shimmer" by Fuel. Just to list a few...

The list goes on and on and on and on. It amazes me that people who have heard this songs 3000 times still get excited when they hear a band play it.

Luckily we REFUSE to play these tunes and try to come up with fresh songs you might not have heard alot or at all before.
