The Straight-Forward Bassist club!

For all of us there that dont do solo's or slapping, just simple effective bass rhythms, hell if we didnt when would the guitard solo? We obviously are the foundation of the band! ;) Who needs solo's when you have great rhythm anyway? :hiding: When you need a show off call Marcus Miller, when you need a groove call us ;)

You got that Right!! It's all about the groove!! The heck with bass Solos. If you don't have solid "make your booty wanna shake" rhythm... Ya got nothin.... It's a GROOVE thing. Let's make that drummer (and the band in general) sound like a million bucks!

I get your club and more power to you... but I hope you realize Mr. Miller spent decades as a first call session guy and is pretty well known for his groove :smug:
Here he is palm muting a groove and not playing a solo

+1 to what James said. I'd give my right hand to play like Marcus :bassist: - except then I wouldn't be able to play. :crying:

I do catch your drift thou , just a bad example. Maybe Billy Sheehan would have been a better example , but I'm sure someone will rip on me for saying that. I say better off leaving examples out of the equation because no matter who you say someone will take offense. ;) -- Just my 2 cents (now I'm broke!)

This club sounds like a perfect fit! it isn't about the flash (for me neway) it's about the groove and the pocket.

as per jdcolbert: "If you don't have solid "make your booty wanna shake" rhythm... Ya got nothin."

If that means slapping an accent here or there, I'm in, but solo???? nooooooooo :)

Edit: forgot to say Gimme a number, puh-lease :)

I like this idea. Just like how back in school I was a 'straight forward' maths guy. I mean I couldn't do any of that fancy calculus or algebra, but damn if I couldn't hold down some good solid addition and subtraction

Whenever I see a post like the OP, I suspect the poster. So I checked him out.

My opinion is unchanged.

Since you brought up Marcus, follow his advice regarding solo vs. groove: "Who says you get to choose? You should be able to blow the baddest solo and play the best groove."
