I bought her CD a few weeks ago and I love it! She has a wonderful melodic sense and has creative and interesting phrasing.
What really keeps me coming back is the song compositions; and it doesn't hurt that that backing musicians are all stellar players as well.

I've been wearing this CD out everyday since I bought it. It's right up there with any of the other bass greats that I might listen to.

The fact that she's cute is certainly another point of interest, but not something I focus on while I'm being inspired by her compositions.

Regarding the album: The intonation on the bass intro on track 3 (Truth Be Told) played in the upper registers sounds ever so slightly out to my ears. Maybe it's just me. <shrugs> As for the song itself: love it.

I down loaded her cd from itunes. It's not bad. I hear the influences of Marcus Miller, John Patticucci and even some Victor Wooten. There's nothing really original about her "voice" but she has nice chops and I liked the tunes.
Her "marketability" certainly doesn't hurt.

I heard lots of solo cd's from other bassplayers and none was Interesting as hers.
she has her own voice on the Instrument, and thats what makes her better then others that have better technique.

Well it's probably not going to go away, nor are the threads about "what amp/bass should I get.

You can't change it, I can't change it and you're right, some like redundancy.

Carry on, and by the way, did you notice how cute she is!?! :D

I just took a listen to her again from in interview..see below....I will be picking up her CD. yup!
btw, I am happy for her and to have a Mentor like Jeff Beck, and others Pros who are behind her, she will do well, very well! I really don't think it should be all about "who has better chops than she does,her looks etc. That could be said about ANY BASSIST who has ever played, it all SUBJECTIVE at best. We are bass players here, and it nice to see we can have opinons about other bassist and still show them the respect they deserve as if it were us in their shoes. Just my take.

LOL...yeah, that's what I meant, Austria. Sorry, I get the Australian accent confused with the Austrian accent. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Paul Hogan sound so similar when they talk that I can't tell the difference ;)

I also thought the same. She tends to add voicing to the song rather than blend in the back with some muddy boring bass line.

I think this might also be from her good understanding of theory and applying it musically and tastefully.

I like that she lets her skills do the promoting and doesn't tart herself up. Far more respect for that.

Clapton's Crossroads III DVD comes out next week, should expose Tal to a whole new non-youtube audience. There will be a lot of great bass playing on it including a lot of Willie Weeks.

Just watched the msn clip. That was pretty amazing. Very groovy. Also, I like the chords at the tune's intro. There was one point where it really seemed like Tal would benefit from a few extra frets and/or a higher string. Maybe the guitarist in her has yet to be totally exorcised?

I suppose I think Tal is cute in the same way that the one girl in the engineering school is cute, if you get my drift.

But I do really dig her playing. It is really amazing that she can keep up with Jeff Beck, who has spent more time asleep than Tal has been alive. I hope she is around for a long time; think how good she will be when she is 45.

I was told in my original post of who this girl was to use the search button....what would I have searched..."girl bass player"...It really irks me at times when people say use the search button when half the time its useless, unless you specifically know the topic you are looking for.....

The emphasis on the fact that she's easy on the eyes reflects more than testosterone in the eyes of the beholder, it also reflects the fact that a *competent* female instrumentalist, someone competing with guys solely on the merits, is so damn unusual. As musicians, nearly all women are vocalists singing other peoples' songs and arrangements. A few also play an instrument that isn't *quite* a prop, and some have written some fine songs. Even the all-girl bands have never been known for their chops - they're basically novelty acts.

I regard her as highly capable and entirely listenable. There may be no more than about a thousand jazz bassists in the world as good as she is technically. Which is very good.
