I have a pretty severe allergy to cat dander, so have been a dog person my whole life. But...I do have one question: why do cats have to be so darn cute?

There is, in the City of Woodland (CA), a street called Dead Cat Alley. The almost certainly apocryphal story behind the name is that there were restaurants (Chinese or not) that did not ask questions about where their meat came from. And neither did the customers, if they were smart. There was a noticeable lack of cats in the neighborhood.

Can happen. A Chinese restaurant down the street from my college apartment in Madison, WI got busted by the health department for using cats. Big thumbs up to the health department. Even 25 years ago when I was working in Korea, there was a big move to ban the use of dog meat in restaurants. It was overwhelmingly successful, but it was still one of the motivating factors for me to learn to read and phoneticize Korean...to know what I was ordering in the local restaurants. I love Korean food, and it was WAY cheaper than eating western food in hotel restaurants.
