Modes are passive. They happen, their note layout or order of half and whole steps, because of a scale or key.
Modes don't change within a scale or key. If they change then you've changed the scale or the key, if only temporarily
Modes aren't all that helpful for soloing. Exciting/interesting melodies happen with the use of accidentals/chromaticism and their resolution. Playing strictly within modes of a key or scale gets pretty bland pretty quickly.
