First comment on the Ed Friedland youtube review.

"This seems to be an okay bass for about $800. Anybody who pays $6000 for this needs to get his head checked. The thing doesn't even have proper active electronics!"

while the last part about the active electronics doesn't hold water, the rest of the comment resounds quite loudly with me.

The YouTube review by Ed Friedland shows how good a bass player he is. If this were a cheapo Squire or some other lower price bass as played through a gbe1200 head it would sing. Not knocking the bass but there are many basses that cost just as much and have a re-sale history which is something to consider. :)

Hi,
Played one yesteday.. and, I thought/think it was a great instrument. Maybe I was taken in by the price tag, but, it felt great, and felt like it would be something you could come home from a hard day at the office and just want to pick up and relax with. It looks and feels great. For tone.. well to each his own, but if I had one, I wouldn't kick it outta bed!

Absolutely. I am amazed that we can judge a bass against its price without playing it, examining it, appreciating what went into it.

I have played these. Amazing, absolutely amazing. Most even neck I have ever sampled. Seeing the hardware and the finish, my take is the price is fair.

There are several astonishing technical innovations here, and I like that these guys pushed the envelope way out. It's how we find out what works and what might be better left unchanged.

If you think the bass that your grandfather bought is as good as it gets just because it is still made, you might want to open a little wider.

Full Disclosure: I make a bass that populates a range of the four figure plane. I am in no way promoting it here, just standing up for an innovating company and their product which sets a very high standard and deserves to be appreciated, even though it may not be the bass for you.

I owned one of these that I bought used on TB - they are alot less used ($2K range).

FWIW I thought it was an absolutely great bass, played and sounded excellent.

I sold it to fund another purchase, as I often do, but these are really cool basses. Definately not everyones cup of tea but certainly as high end as any of the 100+ basses I have owned. I had the pickup covers on the EMG's which I thought changed the tone somewhat, but the EMG's on my bass totally killed and didn't seem out of sort or too low end for it.
