My slap style is similar to Flea as far as how he holds his hands. My pluck style I kind of split between Robert Trujillo with the hard pluck or a more gentle pluck for a smooth tone.
But I do occasionally use a pick. There are just some instances I want a very clean sterile sound. Plus if you squeeze up on the pick like to do a pinch harmonic it has a real quick slap sound kind of Victor Wooten like. Using a pick right at the bridge can be nice too if you want a crunchy and clear tone. I've actually got a set of Banjo picks I use now and then for some chorded picking parts if I want to pronounce it well.
Anyone else use the pick not as a standard but sometimes for different reasons?
