Thinking about Bass for my 11 year old

Hi guys, new here. My youngest is 11, he has an eclectic taste in music. He’s been doing piano for a few years, but has made no progress. He hates his teacher and the pieces she gives him to learn.
In September he’s moving to secondary school and so I want him to try a different instrument. We have a bass guitar, ( his brother used to play) but also wondered about the Double Bass. Looking for advice.
Have to say, haven’t got much money, but really want him to experience the thrill of playing music more than most of the boring subjects he will have to learn at school

Those boring subjects will pay a lot more than he will ever make playing bass. Get him into the school band. They will find an instrument that fits him and band students do seem to do better in the other subjects, i.e. set him up to succeed.
