Thinking on making a big investment in... (Moogerfooger content)

in something like this plus a Moog MP-201!

Well actually I'm sold on the evenlope, Midi Murf and Phaser.

I'm still thinking about the RingMod and Freqbox. I'd probably add a differnet delay (the 104z is very expensive and being discontinued) and then probably an octaver and maybe a fuzz. And of course the mentioned MP-201

What's your feedback on the RingMod and Freqbox? What do you do with them with your bass?

That would essentially give you a Modular Synth (sans delay) that you can control with a bass or guitar.

I love my Bass MuRF and really want the Freqbox and RingMod to go with it,...but as you've pointed out,...they aren't cheap. I'd love to give the LPF a go as well.

My only gripe with the MoogerFoogers is the can have a somewhat noisy bypass which is documented here on TB (do your research :)).

I had my MuRF on a pattern feeding it with a fuzz and the mix low while the rest of my band was getting a beer and it turned into a cool little dancey improv number when they returned. I use an exp pedal and FS-6 to control LFO Sweep and tap tempo respectively. I think that can be achieved with the 201.

I'd get a different delay as well. The MoogerFooger Delay was never really popular hence it's discontinuation.

you sure about the phaser? I'm presuming you're using it on bass but i had the moog phaser for quite a while and was not fond of it on bass.... guitar...it was the best i have ever heard but my quasar DLX kills the moog imo.

Try to find the youtube vid of a fella running a Fender Rhodes through a MF setup,...I think he goes into detail in Freqbox. It seems that this is essentially your waveform generator and I don't know of anything else that sounds like it (or the MuRF for that matter). I think the Rhodes will give you a good idea of lowend retention and such.

Can't comment on the Ring Mod but it is one I would consider along with the Montreal Assembly Ringmod

Since these things are so expensive (the moogers) I would definitely consider used over new. Check the TB Classys and evilBay often.

The ringmod and freqbox are awesome sond efx for bass. I just wasn't too pleased with the subtle response of the moog phaser on bass. The Quasar DLX can be subtle or in your face. The different sounds you can get out of it are amazing as well. My phaser hunt is over.

The Moog Ringmod is one of the best on the market. Does incredibly warm tremolo sounds up to whacked out siren noises as well as the standard ring mod tones (bells, discordant clangs etc) and is great with an expression pedal. Not to mention you can use the LFO from it to control the cutoff on the low pass filter for cool filter throbs.

I really dug mine when I had it. I basically sold it because it was huge, had poor bypass and required a non-standard power supply. But other than those drawbacks it is a fantastic and tweakable ring mod and with other moogerfoogers really opens up a lot of possibilities.

I've slimmed down considerably since that picture was taken, but everyone should have the opportunity to play with these Moogs...

I'd agree with the Phaser question as a solo effect on bass (there are better out there) but when used with the other Moogs it sounds great.

maybe if you want to add a suboctave which is really useful on bass and save the money for the ringmod get a pigtronix mothership as your wave generator, this would save you some money and as far as i see, moog doesnt have any suboctave pedals at all so either get the mothership or a eventide pitchfactor which has also an amazing octave down :)
