On a fretless bass you 1)play the harmonic, 2)press the string down onto the fingerboard and 3)slide away. It's pretty tough to make useful on a fretted bass.
To be honest though, I had a hard time watching that clip when it came to the guy's solo. I dug his grooving and I think he finishes the solo off nicely, but overall I found the intonation off and couldn't really equate his broken arpeggios to the context of the tune. And the sliding harmonics didn't seem to be sliding anywhere in particular. But hey - nice groove!
It's OK. Found it repetetive and lacking harmonic content (this is a pseudo jazz recording so it should have some).

A fretless bassist using slide harmonics is like a guitarist using a whammy bar, in moderation it can be cool, but overusing it can be a gimmick.
Nice groove, but I didn't like the solo at all. His intonation was off and the solo didn't really go anywhere.
Is that Lew Soloff on trumpet? With Gil Goldstein on keys, those are some heavy hitters in that band. I enjoyed it and thanks for posting.
