This is a first.. NDA.

I really wish the OP would chime back in with the nature of the NDA. If it is indeed related to a high profile member (considering his proximity to DC as was also mentioned) then it makes sense. C'mon OP. You should be able to explain the basic reason for the NDA in vague terms without violating it.

Likely the NDA has zero to do with music and more to do with the functions/venues where the group performs. Being in DC, I’d wager that there are some of our most “moral” and “courageous” leaders enjoying some looseness behind the closed doors of these venues, and would likely appreciate a bit of discretion. I’d certainly love to read the NDA. Also (as pointed out previously) an NDA isn’t a non compete, so again it likely has zero to do with the music.
I’d def give it a look.

Like most, been doing this a long time. Just got asked to sign an NDA before even going out on an audition. For a local cover band.

What the what?

Honestly this has turned me off. If it were a successful original or some big league fill in thing I could understand...

Thoughts?

I really wouldn’t have an issue if I’m playing their notes. If I have to come up with my own, I own them, or I get paid for them.

Maybe they are auditioning a replacement for bassist who hasn't yet been fired.
That was my first thought, but we don't yet know if it's an NDA just for the audition or for everything band-related. So everything's wide open - auditioning replacement, paranoid schizophrenic, bad experience with social media, cushy gigs they can't avoid bragging about in audition, or pretentious and litigious asshats who think they can own their arrangements of someone else's music. Unless they play in concealing costumes or are really, really stupid, I think we can rule out famous band mate, but that's about all. And as Beej points out, an NDA needs some specificity to be worth anything.
