This jazz sounds great!

The problem I have with this is the same with many recordings-----they always suck out the lows. ITS A BASS, do we really want to suck out the lows all the time? is that what people like?
* I mean, I can totally collapse the 62hz bar on my soundcard's graphic EQ (which actually covers a range from 62-to somewhere between 124hz), and only slightly change the sound for videos like this.

Toptube, I feel the same, but this is simply what people associate with a jazz-bass sound I guess... I find it hollow and cold, but it's a somewhat established kind of sound...
I agree the recording eq could have been better, and pup adjustment would also prob help the hallow. But it certainly sounds a whole lot better then lots of utube vids. Where peep might as well be useing cheap radioshack mic to mic a cheap low grade 8 inch combo amp. Lol.
I tried that same preamp live with my gear once - jazz bass, gk700rbii and ampeg810. The thing that wasn't apparent on the video is that the preamp adds massive low end. It really fattens up the tone and tightens up the highs. But the low end was so massive I had to really dial it down on the preamp.
