Having a whole library of VSTs available as stompboxes? That is revolutionary.

We're talking sampling, granular/FM/wave synthesis and resynthesis, MIDI triggering, ADSR control...

There is a whole universe of possibilities here. Who cares if it can sound like a Tubescreamer run into an Ampeg?

This isn't a new concept. I run VST's and AU's in Live controlled by a pedalboard. Ok, they took away the physical connection to a laptop...but now you have to do some WiFi hotspot thing and load a web page. Plus the board looks junky even with the addition of...wait...3 whole knobs!! Hold the presses! Stop everything!

To me they made using VST's harder. I feel like this was created by someone embarrassed by having a laptop on stage.

Am I mistaken that you only need the iPad/browser to set up the board, and not to use it once it's set?

Sure "all" that does is eliminate the connection to the laptop, but you know as well as any that the single most frighteningly volatile part of a laptop setup is the laptop itself. Maybe you wouldn't be willing to pay for the peace of mind in eliminating it, but I for one would.

Not to mention how much processor/memory resources you could free up from your laptop for doing sample triggering and sound synthesis if you let this thing take care of all the real time audio processing.

No, this is my understanding too. This is ok, but I see flaws in this method. Song requests you did plan for, set list changes...this kinda thing. And I assume you need to be able to get a cell signal to get to the web.

Keeping the laptop optimized eliminates a lot of the issues people worry about. There are plenty of articles on this. A total unrecoverable crash is a likely as an amp failure IMO but can happen. A lock up happens from time to time but really not often...like breaking a string. Id just switch to no effects for the rest of song while the laptop is rebooting. The reliability of this pedalboard has not been proven yet.

This is a good point though! This would be the only reason for me to consider this solution.
