Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats short scale recommendation

Hi, i'm wanting to buy the Squier Paranormal Rascal bass and i want to string it with flats, but i have seen that the Rascal is a 30" scale bass and the TI flats for short scale basses are 32", so my question is: they could work on a Rascal or what set of flats can buy for it? As it has a string-thru body.

TI Jazz Flats "short scale" should work fine as their actual winding length is 35.5" (ball end to taper/silk). Your bass may be "short scale" but if you want to use the "thru-body" feature, you actually need "medium scale" strings, which TI's really are.

My Reverend Sentinel is a 30" scale with a string-through body and is wearing the TI flats you're describing. They fit perfectly.

I'm thinking about putting TI flats on my 30.7" scale bass, but not sure if it will work. The distance from the ball end to the E tuner peg is exactly 34" and there is no option to put the strings through the body. So there will be ~1.5" of the wound part of the string wrapped around the post. That's probably a bad idea with a round core string, right?

What to do? Why do they make such strange lengths?

Actually the round core is what makes it flexible enough for the full winding to wrap around the post. It shouldn't be a problem as long as the tuner post is not too skinny.

I'm sure it can wrap around the post physically, but I'm a bit afraid of the strings going "dead", which can happen if you abuse round core strings. The windings just lose their grip of the smooth core and "unwind", and then the string sounds like crap.

Anyway, 1.5" is a lot to wrap around the post. Maybe I should consider drilling the body and adding ferrules to string through it.
