Thoughts on CV Mustang?

After some quick thoughts on the Squier CV mustang bass before I pick one up to try.

I ask because there seems to be a lot more negative things said about them than positive in short scale community. People recommending the G&L, Sire and other basses over these. However, my experience with a CV P bass or Jazz bass is excellent. Always play well and feel well built. I'm a classroom music teacher so see a lot of CV stuff, both guitar and bass come through with my students. Is the CV mustang not the same quality as all this other stuff?

I love Mustangs, but the CV's have left me really cold. I've played a few of them in music stores, and the QC is wildly inconsistent. Some were just fine, some were not so fine. I haven't put my hands on one that felt worth what they cost.

I had a Mustang CV for about a month but I felt the pickups sounded a bit weak and thin. I went to the local shop where I bought it and found a very lightly used Mustang PJ with a rosewood board that sounded much better so I exchanged the CV towards the PJ which didn't cost much more.

I'll agree that the MIM Player Mustangs feel and sound pretty great (the neck pickups, anyway). If I didn't have a profound dislike for J bridge pickups, I might consider getting one.

I might be in the minority. I like my CV and returned my Fender PJ mustang. I did replace the pup with a Nordstrand though.

I am very happy with my Squier CV Mustang, but like LowWay I am replacing the pickups. Set of Sentells just ordered yesterday. I have Sentells in my two parts basses and a Squier Musicmaster with the Vista Tone pickup so these were pretty weak by comparison.

Stays in tune, plays well, a good price. Winner for me.
